CHANGES TO OUR FILMING OPTIONS

  • NO MORE DVDs...We have now completely phased out DVD production as it was too time-consuming and not cost-effective enough. Increases in broadband speed now mean that we can upload match highlights to You Tube and other social media platforms in full 1080p high definition at the same 28Mbps quality that the camera records in, and we see that as the best option for distributing our footage for the forseeable future.
  • FREELANCE CAMERA OPERATORS...We are no longer using freelance camera operators to cover matches for us, and our only camera operator is now myself, Laurence Hughes. As I am now in my mid-60’s, I am approaching semi-retirement and therefore not looking to expand the business by taking on staff. Instead, I will be acting more as a freelance cameraman myself for other video companies and passing on work to those companies whenever we receive double bookings for filming matches.
  • EDITING WORK...Although we still have the editing & production of matches (including titles, graphics & slow-motion replays) in amongst our filming options, in general we will be looking for Option One to be our main body of work from now on where our expertise in filming the matches is used, with younger people trained in media studies then doing their own editing & production from our footage.
  • COMMENTARY...For the matches that we do edit & produce, we will certainly be looking to make more use of professional commentary from the excellent Barry Swain of www.commentaryservices.co.uk. Barry has now commentated on a number of our Cup Final productions and we are also now using his services for match highlights for our sponsored adult Sunday League team Edmonton Rovers.  CLICK HERE to see and hear a demo of Barry’s work on one of our productions.

OBTAINING PERMISSION FOR MATCHES TO BE FILMED

  • For all Cup Finals that we are hired to film, you MUST obtain permission from the organisers. (e.g. League or County F.A.).
Please note that most Leagues and County F.A.’s now have deals in place with other video companies to exclusively cover all their Cup Finals, in which case we would not be allowed to film.
  • For Youth matches, you must also obtain permission from the parents and the Team Manager of your opponents.
  • For Non-League matches played in enclosed grounds/stadiums, if you are the Away Team, you must obtain permission from the Home Team.
  • If you are a Scout or are unconnected with either participating team, you must obtain permission to film from both teams, and particularly the Home Team. (Under no circumstances will we film matches 'undercover').

TRAVEL EXPENSES & AREAS COVERED

  • All prices listed in our Filming Options include travel expenses for journeys that take us less than 60 minutes or 30 miles from our base in Edmonton, North London.
Travel expenses will be added for bookings at venues that are further away.
  • In general, we will not film matches any further away than 100 miles away from our base (or a two-hour drive). The area we cover is basically the whole of the South-East of England, most of East Anglia and the ‘Home Counties’ surrounding the M25.

OUR COPYRIGHT

  • Unless otherwise agreed with the hirer in instances where we are being used as a freelancer or the SD card is handed over straight from the camera on the final whistle without an external live recording being made, Hughes Video Services will retain the copyright of all matches filmed under the four Options listed. This will enable us to reproduce the footage (if necessary) for our own use in television broadcasting and internet uploading.
  • All highlights packages that we upload to You Tube will have a copyright advert at the end that confirms the footage was filmed, edited & produced by Hughes Video Services. Our fully edited & produced You Tube uploads are not to be copied and reproduced elsewhere. Customers must LINK to the original upload ONLY, whether it be on our own You Tube channel or on another internet video sharing site that we have uploaded the footage to.
  • All unedited footage supplied to clubs can be duplicated by club personnel for tactical & performance analysis and for publicity & sponsorship opportunities, but the footage must NOT be sold on to supporters for a profit.
  • For the Options where fully edited & produced footage is provided on an SD Card or USB Flash Drive, clubs will be allowed to use that supplied drive to copy the match file onto as many of their own players' hard drives as they like...and even those of their opponents..., whilst charging each player their own price in order to recoup the filming, editing & production fees that we have charged the club.
  • Television companies hiring our services under Option One will be allowed to broadcast the supplied footage as many times as they like without having to make further payments.

COPYRIGHT MUSIC DURING TROPHY PRESENTATIONS

PLEASE NOTE ... If any filming options are ordered that include highlights or whole matches being uploaded to You Tube, we may have to mute the sound during any trophy presentations or pre-match parades onto the pitch if any copyright music is being played over the venue’s P.A. System at the time. This is because You Tube will close our channel down if certain pieces of popular copyright music are clearly audible. These include Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’, Tina Turner’s ‘(Simply) The Best’ and various professional clubs’ pitch entry music (e.g. ‘Bubbles’ / ‘Glad All Over’, etc.). If you have chosen the You Tube option, it is advisable to ask the Cup Final/competition organisers not to play music at these times if at all possible.

FOOTAGE FOR MATCH OFFICIALS and/or for APPEALS & LEGAL PURPOSES

Please note that for matches where we have been booked to film by one or both clubs, subject to any necessary costs being paid, we can provide footage for the match officials and/or for the Football Association should there be incidents occurring that may involve an appeal or legal proceedings.

FILMING MINI-SOCCER / SMALL-SIDED MATCHES

Unfortunately, we cannot lower our prices for small-sided games because the same amount of time is still involved in editing & producing the footage and travelling to and from matches.

HOW TO BOOK US FOR FILMING A MATCH

Please e-mail laurence@hughesvideoservices.co.uk with the Option you would like, together with details of the time and date required, details of the match (i.e. team names, the competition and the venue), whether your opponents are sharing the costs with you, and your contact details (name, address incl. post-code, mobile phone number and e-mail address). A full list of what we require can be found HERE.

Once a cameraman is confirmed for your game, you will then be e-mailed a Confirmation Of Booking letter which will give you details of everything you need to know. For Sunday matches in March, April & May (when we receive numerous bookings for Cup Finals to be filmed), the Confirmation Of Booking letter is normally sent out on the Monday preceding the match.
